This month’s Reader’s Digest has a great article about how to trick your body into staying young. Now, presumably this is something that most people want to do! However, the advice given by the authors gets a bit technical and whilst they refer to such things as getting enough exercise, quality sleep and keeping your weight (they say down) I say within sensible limits. You don’t want to be anorexic do you?
Most of what they are saying is very good advice but you have to consume a mountain of organic foods to keep yourself from ageing and whilst this will certainly help, and we need all the help we can get if we are to survive to a healthy ripe old age.
The problem, as I see it, is in your ability to consume the amounts that are needed on a regular basis to maintain a healthy lifestyle. They talk about Flavonoids and Carotenoids from grapes, cranberries, tomatoes, pomegranates, onions and tomato juice. Well, I ask you how can you eat all of those in a day? They have forgotten about the cruciferous vegetables that you need broccoli, brussell sprouts, radishes. Then of course you need other vitamins and minerals that aren't present in the quantities you need in the foods already mentioned so you will need to eat even more! How are you going to stay your ideal weight and eat all that food?
Don’t forget to eat plenty of oily fish, and complex carbs from whole grains!
